SANIGUARD® Antimicrobial-Coating Proves Effective against Norovirus
Protective Measures now Available for equipment inShips and Health Care Facilities

Component Hardware Group has successfully tested the protectivecoating, SANIGUARD®, against the virus feline calicivirus a virus related to the human norovirus at The University of Arizona, Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences. SANIGUARD® can be applied to Component Hardware Group’s plumbing and hardware on new orders. Many of these products are of the type currently in use in food service kitchens, wash rooms and health care facilities. Until now, common sanitary surfaces had no ability to inactivate viruses. 

Norovirus is very contagious and many cases are traced directly to unsafe food handling practices. The Center for Disease Control estimates that 23 million cases of gastroenteritis are due to Norovirus infection every year. 

With the development of specialized inorganic materials suitable for the high heat of kitchens as well as the repeated use associated with bathrooms and wash rooms, antimicrobial treated materials have leaped to the forefront in the fight against bacteria, mold, fungus.
